What is morally wrong with changing our minds?

It seems that the rationale for prohibiting drug use can be traced to the simple moral argument that doing anything to %26quot;change your mind%26quot; or %26quot;alter your perception%26quot; is disastrous. Where does this absurd notion come from? Why do so many believe it is OK to push your beliefs on others and prevent responsible adults from using drugs?

I don't want any answers like %26quot;OMG dount yu know tht drugs are bad??! I meen, my bruther is like, totalllly adicted to weed and stuff. Like, dont be a krackkhead!?!?!?%26quot;

If America is truly the land of the free, why do we consider it OK to prevent people from the ghastly deed of %26quot;getting high%26quot;. Believe it or not, MOST people can use drugs responsibly without harming others. Please, let me know why you consider it OK to hinder people from their personal choice.

(Please, PLEASE do not say it is to %26quot;save the children%26quot;. The children don't need to be saved, they need to learn how to THINK!)
What is morally wrong with changing our minds?
there are two major schools of thought on this idea, the Kantian view and the Milltian view.

John Stuart Mill believed that anything that humans do should be weighed against the greater happiness principle (if i do this will it cause humanity happiness or unhappiness) drugs are on an edge as far as this principle is concerned, drugs make me happy but when people who care about me watch me spend all of my time and money on them they are unhappy.

Immanuel Kant believed that we should act according to our duties to humanity, rationality being one of our duties (irrationality is detrimental to humanity)

Mills would state that responsible drug use is good, but addiction and abuse is bad.

Kant would state that being in any irrational mental condition is wrong, therefore being on drugs is wrong.

my experience is that acid is a damn load of fun, but of no other value. (plus a trip to any String Cheese Incident or Phish concert and a look at their Deadhead style following -%26quot;I'm looking for a miracle%26quot;-will show you why it is probably a bad idea to take acid all the time.)

i have been to rehab for opiate abuse and seen firsthand the unhappiness caused by doing drugs irresponsibly (and i will tell you that it is IMPOSSIBLE to do coke or oxy or meth responsibly) it's not fun or pleasant or in any way worth it.

smoke weed and have a beer every once in a while,

even Jesus drank wine.

vote yes on Colorado Amendment 44

Great question, but be prepared for the legions of the assinine to come forth and issue mindless platitudes by the ton.
Its a %26quot;Its not my fault%26quot; world out there. You don't have to be responsible for your own actions, unless your high or drunk. Then its all on you and you get hung like a child rapist. Don't think of the USA as a place of freedom, its a place of control. Read the news from other countries to learn about your own.
Are you refering to drugs as a %26quot;whole%26quot;? (i.e. marijuana, methamphetamine, Heroine, Ecstasy to name a few?)

Where is your head at? up your a**????

Sure, go ahead, alter your state of mind, slip up a few times, then a few more times.....before you know it your brain will be eaten away and your organs will break down...your family, friends and loved ones will no longer want to associate with you.

BUT.....maybe you'll run across a little luck and get arrested, put in jail or a rehab facility mind you it would be us taxpayers who would be funding this completely stupid idea you had.
Here is the superficial reason, and not the underlying reality. The human consciousness doesn't have the power to easily govern, limit, or correct itself. Once it is stuck on a belief, it is stubborn and will defend the belief, even if it will end in death. If narcotics were good and safe, we would not have drug addicts and deaths. The superficial reason is that the taxpayers have to clean up the mess the weak and undisciplined minds created.
