Catholic Church: Changed mind on Galilleo, and Evolution. You think (eventually) it will about gays?

My father remembered the Catholic Church saying that you could not be saved outside of the Church. Now, the Catholic Church recognizes that Protestants who accept Jesus are saved. That's a big turnaround. Jews used to be condemned by the Chruch. Now the Church never says anything against them.
Catholic Church: Changed mind on Galilleo, and Evolution. You think (eventually) it will about gays?
Oh, definitely. I used to think otherwise, but after looking into Catholic doctrine, I was astounded by all the ethical changes made in the past. Evolution is accepted, as are other religions, the Big Bang theory, and I can see accepting homosexuals happening in the next ten years or so.

Now, if only the other sects of Christianity would do the same. You know which ones I'm talking about.
Catholic Church: Changed mind on Galilleo, and Evolution. You think (eventually) it will about gays?
Religion must either adapt or die. Catholicism is no exception.
Yes, just like society and their turnarounds... or something
As the worlds largest cult, yes, I believe the Catholic religion will eventually accept gays.
I doubt it, not anytime soon ... they sort of came to a compromise by saying %26quot;well, there's nothing wrong with homosexuality -- you just can't act on it%26quot;. Maybe they will eventually be totally ok with homosexuality but by that point in time nobody will care what they think anyways.
It only took them about 400 years to accept galileo's teaching that the earth revolved around the sun. Yes, I suspect that within 400 years they will stop condemning non-priest homosexuals as well.
They will continue to make up stuff as they go along. If there is a financial advantage in recognising gays, then they will.
Only after they're presented with overwhelming evidence that gay people are here to stay, are perfectly natural, and that the general public will no longer tolerate their intolerance.
It took them 100 years just to let Galileo's works be published (still censored), 200 hundred years to accept heliocentrism and about 350 years to acknowledge that the tribunal Galileo faced made errors. The church made no official statements on the Theory of Evolution, so it had no egg on its face when it decided to accept it (albeit theistic evolution). It's been pretty condeming of homosexuality, so expect later rather than sooner.
Of course, eventually.
Nope No Way. The good Shepard Hermus took care of that! Not ever been a Pope go against him.
If a religion is going to survive it has to bend to the times. Homosexuality is so accepted now (at least where I live) that churches that reject it will wither and die with their members.
Of course.

When the Church are finally forced to start treating gays as human beings, they will just say it was their idea all along.
I think the church hierarchy will only agree to this so long as they continue to get first pick on talented gay men and lesbians, when they're recruiting Catholic kids for the clergy.

At least so long as there's a ban on clerical marriage, I think the Church will need to recruit heavily among gay men and lesbians to serve as priests, monks and nuns. Most heterosexual people just don't accept the idea of celibacy for life, or even a religious discipline that forces you to pretend to be celibate when you aren't.

But if secular society becomes tolerant of gay people, won't that interfere with recruitment to the clergy?

In addition, as someone who at one time read through the Bible pretty carefully, I think the Church and the Protestant denominations will have a hard time getting past the violently anti-gay sentiments in Genesis, Leviticus %26amp; Deuteronomy.

Of course, the Church and most Protestant denominations have found plausible ways to ignore much of what Jesus is supposed to have said in the Gospels about rejecting war %26amp; condemning rich people for putting money-making in place of their obligations to the poor.

So like most of us, the Church usually can find a way to interpret scripture to serve its own interests. And if it can ignore Jesus on the futility and folly of war, it can probably come to be more flexible on homosexuality. We'll just have to see.

As an agnostic, I do think it would be great if the different Christian denominations came to agree with the Gospel of John about God being a God of love, and if they decided to apply this doctrine across sexual %26amp; gender lines.
The Catholic Church already accepts homosexuals.

Created in the image of the one God and equally endowed with rational souls, all men have the same nature and the same origin. Redeemed by the sacrifice of Christ, all are called to participate in the same divine beatitude: all therefore enjoy an equal dignity.

The Catholic Church believes there is nothing sinful about being homosexual. But all unmarried people (homosexual, bisexual, and heterosexual) are called to celibacy.

The Church specifically says that homosexuals %26quot;must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided.%26quot;

With love in Christ.
The Catholic Church used to believe that homosexuality was caused by demonic influences (see Romans 1:26) now it teaches that its a psychological disorder. That's a pretty significant change.

Of course this is one of the many reasons traditionalists reject the modern antipopes.
