What's the difference between 'changing your mind' and 'flip flopping'?

SO far, it seems the difference is that when reps do it, it is changing their mind, but when dems do it, it is flip flopping%26#039;. What is YOUR definition? And this time, please answer the question, and refrain from personal attacks.|||When someone changes their mind, they have additional information and make a more informed decision based on that information. Flip Flopping is when you change your positon more times than the average person changes their under-ware. When one day they are for something, the next against, then a week later for, then against, see the big difference.

Informed educated people can change their minds. Politicians flip flop, depending on who the voters are they are talking too at the time.|||Hair Grows!|||well changing your mind should involve thought, flip/flop is going with the political breeze,|||It%26#039;s all buzz words and demonizing your political opposition. How has liberal become a naughty word in Republican circles? Some liberalism is good, especially in the face of Fascism. We shouldn%26#039;t be pushing toward extremes. And I%26#039;m happy that this election has taken us a step away from just that!|||bush flip flop didn%26#039;t he .lmao|||only democrats can flip flop

and only Rush Limbaugh can be the judge of what a flip flop is|||Who says it first.|||From the far rights perspective, anything they don%26#039;t like is treason.|||When Democrats flip-flop, it%26#039;s just changing one lie to another lie.|||You won, you got what you wanted, get over it and stop boo hooing, and enjoy your one term!|||I don%26#039;t think there is much of a difference, but remember your party has constanly fliped flopped on the war. Both party%26#039;s do it and it is wrong!!! Too bad nobody is perfect!!!!!!

%26quot;It is the duty of any president, in the final analysis, to defend this nation and dispel the security threat. Saddam Hussein has brought military action upon himself by refusing for 12 years to comply with the mandates of the United Nations. The brave and capable men and women of our armed forces and those who are with us will quickly, I know, remove him once and for all as a threat to his neighbors, to the world, and to his own people, and I support their doing so.%26quot;

Senator John Kerry (Democrat, Massachusetts)

Statement on eve of military strikes against Iraq

March 17, 2003

http://www.tnr.com/doc.mhtml?i=20030331%26amp;鈥?/a>|||You seem to have hit the nail on the head, flip flopping was used by republicans to paint democrats as confused. Most rational people change their minds from time to time. Also, Flip Flop is used to over simpifly the workings of congress for people who don%26#039;t understand the way legisilation is done.|||If I had to come up with an actual definition, rather than a political retort...

Changing your mind is when you reach a different conclusion based on new information, or a new situation. In other words, you do the same analysis that you did in the first place, but because you have different facts this time, you come to a different conclusion.

Flip-flopping is when you decide what you want the conclusion o be, and then pretend to do the analysis (or come up with some excuse) that justifies that conclusion. That way, you get to pick the conclusion that is politically expedient without any analysis.

Politically, it%26#039;s flip-flopping if the people who are making the comment are too wrapped up in their own propaganda (or too stupid) to be able to understand why the person came to a different conclusion. If they can%26#039;t understand the analysis that took place, or aren%26#039;t willing to think about it, they attack the conclusion by saying that no analysis was actually done.|||Democrats say changing your mind and Republicans say flip flop|||flip flop=change of mind ,a change of opinion,especially by a politician%26lt;informal%26gt;...nothing more nothing less.it is not lying to the American people...cheers|||If it%26#039;s someone you like, they change their mind.

If it%26#039;s someone you don%26#039;t like, they flip-flop.

It%26#039;s kinda dumb because it means the same thing.|||changing your mind is just what it says %26quot;you have changed your mind%26quot; flip-flopping, is a decision that has not quite been made you are not sure what you want to do so you go back and forth, trying to decide what is right|||Your correct. Flip Flop was used well on Kerry about his war vote. Since Rummy resigned long before the elections that%26#039;s a change of mind, not a flip flop. Dropping the %26quot;stay the course%26quot; was also a change of mind. Not a flip flop.

Admitting that Iraq had nothing to do with Sept. 11th, after saying they did was a change on Mind. Admitting that Niger did not sell Iraq Yellow cake was a change of mind. It only counts as a flip flop when we Democrats do it. I guess then the last election was not a defeat for Republicans but only a flip flop.|||According to Repukes, they %26quot;change their minds%26quot;.... but SO seldomly even in the face of painful glaring reality, but Democrats, (like Kerry), %26quot;flip flop%26quot;. Down with Dictator Dumbya!!!|||John Kerry does both

HELLBENT was right about you|||changing your mind - one side to the other once

flip flopping- have an opinion then change it to fit a need to get afew votes then to get more votes change it back again

just listen to John Kerry speeches you%26#039;ll figure out a flip flopper in no time
